CAREGIVING

Del Oro Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center is an independent, private, non-profit program funded through a contract with the California State Department of Mental Health, grants and private donations. Their mission is to improve the well being of caregivers and provide support throughout the care giving process. Del Oro provides a variety of services to help support caregivers and achieve our mission. Elizabeth Dole Foundation The Elizabeth Dole Foundation assists the organizations and agencies that serve caregivers — spouses, parents, and others — responsible for an injured military member. Their efforts are designed to better align lifeline services for wounded warriors, promote synergy between the public, private, nonprofit, labor and faith communities, and raise awareness about the critical needs facing caregivers today. Community Weaving Community Weaving is an online database; an innovative approach to foster a community of responsible citizens who create Family Support Networks where they share their time, gifts, talents and resources with others. Carrington College California Dental Hygiene Clinic offers free dental services such as dental cleanings, deep cleanings, fluoride application, home care instruction for periodontal disease, dental screening, dental sealants, X-rays, free dental referrals and dental resources.Appointments are long because students do the procedures as they are being supervised by a registered dental hygienist. UC Davis medical students and physicians make significant contributions to the health of underserved populations in the Sacramento area through their volunteer efforts at several community clinics. These clinics train students in delivering primary care services while simultaneously improving access to care in underserved communities. The programs have been recognized nationally as an exemplary partnership between an academic medical center and the community. Medical students, typically in their first or second year, and undergraduates who staff the clinics receive course credit. At least one volunteer licensed physician supervises the students. Undergraduate students act as interpreters, patient advocates, receptionists, and lab workers. Many undergraduate student volunteers are planning for careers in health care. Volunteering in the clinics provides an early opportunity for hands-on training that would otherwise not be available to them. For medical students, volunteering at these clinics keeps them grounded as to why they decided to pursue careers in medicine in the first place. (UCDMC Web)Free for the uninsured and low income. Instead, they rely on local charitable partners to pre-screen all patients based on visual and financial need. They welcome agencies that have an established screening system in place to determine if their clients have a visual and financial need.
